My First Crochet Blanket
#MyFirstCrochetBlanket is a craft based investigation.
The project began in late February 2015, when embarking on a new working / travelling lifestyle as a Live-in support worker.
Utilising the medium of crochet to explore themes of adaptation, resistance, transient situations and always moving forwards.
Inspired by collectors of old maps, aerial photographs and unlikely colour combinations co-existing alongside one another.
The blanket continued to grow whilst the artist travelled to numerous locations across the UK, Malta, Germany, Belgium and Holland. Additionally, the blanket contains yarns sourced from these places, building up an abstract narrative, allowing opportunity for reflection on cherished time and in transit, on planes, trains, buses and cars to indulge in the investigation of the responsive qualities yarn has to offer and being influenced by the changing surroundings.
The project was discontinued in September 2016 as travelling ceased and the main focus on home environment began.
